The Five Forbidden Diets That Elevate Consciousness

In today’s world, where quick fixes and unhealthy habits dominate, certain diets stand in stark contrast to the mainstream narrative. These have been termed forbidden for their ability to challenge conventional wisdom. Among these transformative approaches is the Keto diet, along with other lesser known practices that elevate not just physical health, but consciousness itself. These diets, once regarded with skepticism or outright disdain, are now being rediscovered for their profound effects on mental clarity, spiritual growth, and overall well being.

Fasting – A Spiritual Path to Elevation

This makes fasting an essential practice for those looking to deepen their spiritual awareness.

I have personally tried a 24 hour fast. While it was challenging at first, I felt a remarkable clarity by the end. My best friend Sarah also swears by it. She says it transformed her meditation practice.

The Paleo Diet – Reconnecting with Our Ancestral Roots

The Paleo diet encourages eating foods that our ancestors would have consumed, such as lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. It emphasizes a return to the basics. By eliminating processed foods, refined sugars, and grains, the Paleo diet encourages a more natural approach to nutrition.

This diet is often associated with a sense of vitality and mental clarity, as it eliminates the inflammatory effects of modern, highly processed foods. With fewer toxins entering the body, the mind becomes clearer. Many practitioners report increased focus, energy, and an overall enhanced sense of well being. For many, the Paleo diet is not just about physical health. It is about aligning with a more grounded, natural way of being that helps elevate consciousness.

I experimented with Paleo for a month. I noticed my energy levels soar. My niece Emily has been on it for six months. She credits it for her newfound focus during her studies.

Raw Food Diet – Vibrancy from Nature’s Source

The raw food diet emphasizes consuming whole, unprocessed foods in their natural state. It has gained attention for its potential to elevate consciousness. By eating raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, individuals experience an increase in energy levels and mental clarity. I tried a raw food cleanse for a week. I felt incredibly light and focused. My neighbor has been thriving on it for years. He says it has brought him a new sense of peace.

Veganism – Elevating Consciousness Through Compassion

By avoiding foods that come from animals, individuals often experience an increased sense of compassion and empathy. Veganism, in this sense, goes beyond just nutrition. It becomes a lifestyle that aligns with higher ethical values. Many vegans report a clearer mind and a deeper spiritual connection, feeling more attuned to the interconnectedness of life. I have been dabbling in veganism for a few weeks. I already feel a shift in my empathy.

My cousin Lisa went vegan last year. She says it has deepened her spiritual practice immensely.

Keto – A Gateway to Mental Clarity and Spiritual Awareness

The ketogenic diet, or Keto, is often considered the most well known forbidden diet due to its departure from mainstream nutritional guidelines. By drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and increasing healthy fats, the Keto diet shifts the body into a metabolic state called ketosis. In this state, fat becomes the primary source of energy instead of glucose.

While many turn to Keto for weight loss, there is an underlying benefit that goes beyond aesthetics: the potential to elevate consciousness. As the body relies on fat for fuel, it produces ketones. This often leads to enhanced mental clarity, improved focus, and a sense of being more present in the moment. I tried Keto for 8 months and lost 33 lbs. Not only that, I was amazed at how sharp my mind became. My colleague Mark has been on it for over a year. He credits it for his deepened meditation experiences.

Keto, fasting, raw foods, and other forbidden diets are changing the way we think about food and more importantly, how we think about ourselves and the world around us.

Which one is the best?

For me, Keto because I can still eat a lot of the food I enjoyed without dieting, yet it seems that most diets have some sort of setback.  For example, I also love ice cream but that’s a big no-no on Keto. The bottom linbe is finding a diet that suits your taste buds and is something you can stick to without it feeling like a job that you despise.

Many of you know I’ve been doing a combination of intermittent fasting and the Keto diet.  I stop eating at 8pm and don’t eat anything until noon the following day (a 16 hour fast). Often, I’ll eat dinner around 5:30 or so and that’ll be my last meal of the day, which ends up extending my fast for a few more hours. Admittedly, I put a lot of weight back on eating “comfort food” after a hurricane passed through Sarasota and created damage to my home. I decided to go back to Keto and intermittent fasting on January 18, 2025 and in 2 months, I’ve lost 28 pounds!

Similar to Amelia, Keto works for me too, but a diet is a personal decision that only YOU can make. Choose wisely and good luck!
